Let’s start with an easy one first: what is excess baggage?
Excess baggage is anything that weighs us down unnecessarily and often comes at a cost.
More often than not, the worries and stresses that we carry come from no-one but ourselves.
We worry what people think of us when they are more consumed by their feelings.
We worry that we aren’t good enough, even though we have shown otherwise.
We worry that we will be judged on our appearance – and we will – but only by people who carry doubts of their own.
We form bad habits and berate ourselves, but rather than manage them we indulge them – we overeat, watch too much tv, drink too much, scroll social media and gossip. Then we feel bad.
All of these things are within our power to change.
How? I hear you say.
Well, I believe there are three main ways that we can clear this excess baggage that we carry, so we can find a life we love and be confident in saying “I’m me”.
When you start decluttering your stuff it starts to give you clarity on what matters. It gives you pause for thought on what other things could be decluttered from your life, from a busy schedule to your list of friends to your thoughts. Minimalism embodies all of these ideas.
Having a Healthy Body and Mind
Eating the right food and maintaining a self-care plan including exercise gives you more energy to take on the challenges of getting rid of the excess. Plus, you might get rid of that excess weight and alleviate symptoms of physical stress such as a bad back or painful joints.
A goal doesn’t have to be a major project. It could be something as simple as walking 30 minutes a day. By following a proper goal setting process, changing your habits, and monitoring progress, you are more likely to achieve it than if you leave it to fate.
How have you been clearing the excess baggage this year?

Until next time, remember, if the excess baggage is weighing you down, you can always leave it in lost luggage.
